TLDR: Games now are too short;
I started playing league in S2, stopped playing at the end of S7 and started again this season. That pause made me realize why League is less fun to play now.
Usual games then took 40-45 minutes and it was possible to get over an hour without problems (My record is 1h20m).
Usual games now take about 25 minutes and the longest game i had this season was 45 minutes long (and it was the most fun game I've played this season).
Back then it was more about big plays and outplays (stealing baron then was huge-It's not that big of a deal now).
Games now are pretty much decided by picks-If you want to win games you just need to pick early game champs.
Back then winning lane wasn't as important, because it would not make you win the game (as much as it is now).
Now because winning lane means so much people try too much and either go big or they will lose quickly and can play another (This one is propably not true for high ELO).
Because snowballing now is so easy it is quite normal to see people go 0/5 even when they don't feed intentionaly. Back then this kind of score was almost for sure intentional.
AND of course this makes people flame more, which makes the game even less fun.
EDIT:This isn't the only reason of course, but i think it's the biggest
