Is pointing out Grammar Mistakes Toxic?

I recently commented where the author used in his post the word "rideculus". Well, it's written incorrectIy and because I know it's a difficult word I wanted to correct his mistake. I posted a comment ONLY saying "*ridiculous" and I got a surprising response: Someone else pointed out that I am toxic and shouldn't correct other peoples spelling mistakes. I was like WAIT WHAT?! I mean I am not toxic, at least I don't think I am. So I am very surprised I got such a response. Is pointing out spelling mistakes really toxic behavior? Personally I don't think so :(
