Serious note about autofill and why it is a good thing

There is a lot of hate around autofill and being forced into a position and there are many sides to the argument. Some players would be perfectly happy to wait in queue for an hour just to get mid lane and play the champion they want, others would rather wait 2 minutes and get into a game regardless of the role they are given but there is more to it than that. From the round table discussion about dynamic queue they discussed the matchmaking system and that it works on 3 levels - getting the position you want, creating a fair match, making a game quickly. I will now give an example of how matchmaking with and without autofill might go with possible exaggeration on time as I have no data to go by... **Without autofill** An average player in Silver 2 queues up as mid and top, the 2 most popular roles, the system tries to find 9 other players around silver 2 mmr. 1 minute the player is still in queue so lets increase the gap looking for silver 3-1 players 2 minutes and the player is still in queue so lets increase the gap looking for silver 4 - gold 5 players 5 minutes pass and the player is still in queue so lets increase the gap looking for bronze 2 to gold 2 players match found but the players in that match are way beyond their usual limits. **With autofill** An average player in silver 2 queues up as mid and top, the 2 most popular roles, the system tries to find 9 other players around silver 2 mmr. 1 minute and the player is still in queue to lets increase the gap looking for silver 3 - 1 players 2 minutes and the player is still in queue so lets open up autofill looking for silver 3 - 1 players game found the player might not be in the role they wanted but they are against people of a closer skill range and quicker. This might not change some peoples minds but those who listen might be able to see the good in autofill on the matchmaking system when given a chance.
