As honor was introduced, i remember riot stating that they would not disclose how honor progress works, but rather assured the players, that all that really is needed to progress in honor is to play in good sportsmanship.
In the faq it states:
> Do I need to do anything special to progress?
> You level up just by playing to win in your games. Show up, don’t intentionally work against team, and you’ll progress in the coming weeks and months. If your teammates honor you a lot, you’ll get a slight bonus in progression and rewards like loading screen flairs.
> If I get no Honors, do I still level up?
> You will. All you have to do is show up and try to win in all your games.
Now, let's look about how this plays out in reality. This season, i played around 450 games on this account, last season pretty much the same, in both season i failed to climb to honor lvl5 (stopping short at the 1st/2nd checkpoint in lvl4), despite not having received any kind of punishment (i rarely type, but i do scream at the screen a lot, who doesn't). If this is indicative of good sportsmanship, who knows, but it's at least a sign for riot not being convinced otherwise.
Now at the end of the season, I'm again still wondering, what in the world, i am missing here. Imo i played too many games, not too few. Sure enough, i was not spoonfed honors by premades, since i mostly played soloQ, but receiving honors is not that important from all that riot states. And while other ppl get hold back majorly from earning honor, when they received a punishment, this does not apply for me also.
So not reaching lvl5 is one thing, not knowing, what it really is, that im missing, is the other frustrating thing.
The only thing we do know about the process, is that it at least states at the end of a match, that you get honor progress, if everyone on your team honored a player. But in Soloq thats hardly something you can control, most ppl dont bother to honor after a bad match, or simply when they got to honor lvl5 and dont care anymore.
The other thing i noticed, when i did progress in honor, it was often, after a period of playing with premade friends, who had given me more honor than compared to soloq games (bcs premades, duh) and ofc, in soloq theres babyrage and reports flying around, and with premades its all good fun. So in that regard, does honor favor premade matches, i think so, should it? I would argue no, the honor system should reward you more in the games, where it is actually hard to stay calm, where you get stomped on, or where you are stuck with 4 random ppl. But right now, it rewards queing up with premades.
It just feels intransparent, slow and unrewarding and is rly hard to progress in the environment where you sportsmanship is put to the test.
